Baku to host 2015 European Games

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev stressed the importance of his country's hosting of the 2015 European Games, which will take place from June 12 to 28.

Speaking to MENA, Abdullayev said his country had carried out 40 international Olympic projects.

Choosing Azerbaijan to host the major sports event comes in light of the sport achievements it accomplished, he said.

Azerbaijan ranked the 30th out of 205 and the 15th among European countries during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the envoy added.

Azerbaijan will also host the 4th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, he said.

The European Games is an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe. It will feature more than 6,000 athletes from 50 NOCs competing in 20 sports.
