The Algerian football team is in a position to perform well at the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2015) in Equatorial Guinea, from 17 January to 8 February, the former Desert Foxes coach Khalef Mahieddine said Thursday to APS.
Commenting on the draw of the CAN 2015, made Wednesday in Malabo, Khalef dubbed “death group” Algeria’s group (C), which also includes Ghana, Senegal and South Africa.
"At this stage of the competition, you cannot expect to come across small teams. When the conditions are met, you have to play,” said Khalef, on the sidelines of the international colloquium “Between Algeria and France, Immigration, Football and Media,” organized at the Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology (CRASC) of Oran.
Speaking about the Desert foxes’ chances to go as far as possible in this final stage of the competition, he said that “the National team is a professional one. It is a team that is well prepared and that has all the means to succeed. They proved it over the past years. They ranked best African team and 18th worldwide.”
The former coach of the national team said that the national eleven has many good players, underlining that “in the game, the tactical level plays an important role.”
