London - Arabstoday

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has handed a vote of confidence to under-fire coach Claudio Ranieri, despite his team's exit from the UEFA Champions League. The Italians won their second leg with Marseille 2-1 at the San Siro last night, but were knocked out on away goals. Inter spurned glorious early chances, but Diego Milito's scrappy 75th-minute goal appeared enough to force extra time at least. But Brandao then scored a goal from nothing for Didier Deschamps' visitors in the second minute of stoppage time. There was a further twist when Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda fouled Giampaolo Pazzini, earning a second yellow card and allowing the Italy international to give Inter victory on the night from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to spare Ranieri's side from elimination. "It's not Ranieri's fault," Moratti said on the club's official website. "More than anything, Deschamps was fortunate. "Had we lost 4-0, I could have seen things in a different light, but having conceded two goals in injury time (one in each leg), I can't make a negative judgement. Ranieri doesn't deserve that." Ranieri last night rejected suggestions that a complete overhaul of Inter's ageing squad was now needed. "It has not been a good year," said the former Chelsea manager. "Should there now be an Inter revolution? No. "You should not think of a revolution but a restructuring. The club knows that already. We will keep fighting, the wind has to change. The team can not give any more than it has given." Inter, who are also out of the race for the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia after a dismal campaign, host Atalanta on Sunday. I Nerazzurri are seventh in the league after ending a nine-game winless run with a 2-0 triumph at Chievo last week.
