Investing in children's welfare is a key factor that has ensured sustainable development in the UAE, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva, has said.
Addressing an interactive session on the rights of children, held yesterday at the Human Rights Council (HRC), Al Zaabi said the UAE's wise leadership had placed children at the top of national development agenda.
"The UAE is keen on providing a safe environment to develop children's capabilities and talents. The country has taken appropriate steps in the fields of healthcare, education, social and cultural welfare to ensure comprehensive welfare of the children," he added.
Al Zaabi pointed out that investment in children's rights requires a transparent budget that takes into consideration their needs and ensures adequate allocation of resources.
The interactive session, held under the theme "Towards better investment in the rights of the child," is part of the HRC's 28th session being organised from 2nd March to 27th March.
