New head of the National Council for Women Maya Morsy said she will resign from her UN post in the interest of the homeland.
In statements on Tuesday, Morsy said she will focus on coordination and work on a three-year plan with the council's branches and committees, especially with the complaint offices in various governorates.
Morsy was elected on Monday as the new head of Egypt’s National Council for Women, succeeding Mervat El Talawy.
The elections came after a decision by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi last week to reshuffle the council’s staff.
New chairwoman Morsy previously worked as the United Nations Women Country coordinator.
She has also occupied the position of Regional Gender Practice Team Leader in the UN’s Development Program since March 2013.
Morsy holds a bachelor degree from the American University in Cairo and an MBA from London City University.
