Head of the Development and Enhancement of Women Eman Baibars said that the Egyptian woman failed to overcome the challenges facing her despite the social development witnessed in the Egyptian community.
She added, “The position of the Egyptian woman witnessed a breakthrough during the recent years. We have a woman governor and a number of female ministers and parliamentarians, while we still struggle against the Wahabist ideas promoted by the formerly ruling Muslim Brotherhood.”
She blamed those people who attempt to challenge the passage of personal status laws supporting the women for the current problems facing the woman in the Egyptian community. She noted that the Egyptian woman managed to achieve notable progress on the political level, while she needs to take more steps forward on both cultural and social levels.
She praised the Egyptian government for appointing Nadia Abdou as the first governor in Egypt and the Arab world, expressing her appreciation to Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi for his efforts to support the woman.
She added that she exerts her efforts to ensure the women’s rights and to achieve the justice and equality between the men and women in the Egyptian community, adding that she gives the priority to the poor people living in the slums. She said that thousands of women live in these slums, stressing the need for helping them.
She underlined the efforts exerted to amend the laws passed during the rule of Muslim Brotherhood to undermine the rights of women, stressing that the country witnesses currently critical conditions. She called the government for exerting more efforts to support the women on both cultural and social levels.
