Three drug traffickers were arrested and nearly 700kg of cannabis resin were seized by units of the Algerian gendarmerie in Maghnia and Remchi (Tlemcen, 540-km west of the capital, Algiers), the Ministry of National Defense said Monday in a statement carried by state news agency APS.
"As part of the fight against organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie arrested three drug traffickers and seized 692.7kg of cannabis resin and a car in the communes of Maghnia and Remchi, in the province of Tlemcen (2nd Military Region), on 7 August 2016," said the statement.
During a joint operation, an army detachment along with units of the national gendarmerie intercepted a drug trafficker aboard a commercial vehicle loaded with 150kg of cannabis resin on the East-West Motorway in the province of Setif, the ministry added.
In addition, an army detachment "arrested a smuggler aboard a truck loaded with over 26 quintals of tobacco," in the province of Biskra, added the statement.
