Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, inaugurated the third International Conference on Future Mobility in Dubai on Tuesday.

Around 350 representatives of global, regional, Gulf and local governments, as well as experts in environment, energy, technology, communications, research and legislation, are participating in the conference, organised by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA.

"The reality and the economic future of the UAE, which is aimed at innovation and the employment of technology, began its first signs with the adoption of a policy two years ago by His President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan," Al Mansouri said.

He explained that the policy included 100 national initiatives in the education, health, energy, transport, space and water sectors, with an estimated investment of AED300 billion.

The minister went on to say that the UAE Vision 2021 details the country's commitment to achieving a sustainable environment and integrated infrastructure regarding air quality, conservation of resources, and increased reliance on clean energy and green development.

"Our country aspires to become the world's first in infrastructure quality in airports, ports and roads, in addition to enhancing the quality of service provision to become the leading country in smart services," he continued.

Al Mansouri added that the UAE has a genuine desire to take an advanced position in the development of mechanisms and legislation to serve these trends.

These new projects are capable of advancing new economic and development sectors that will boost our national economy, contribute to the preservation of the environment for future generations, and help the nation to be among the best countries in the world by 2021 via sustainable development across the economic, social and environmental axes, he explained.

He concluded by saying that the UAE is continually adopting initiatives that enable it to move towards a knowledge-based economy based on innovation in all its details, moving away from reliance on an oil-based economy.
