Since beginning of crisis in Syria in March 2011, 83,598 people were killed as a result of attacks by the Assad regime. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) that tracks civilian and dissident casualties, said since the start of the Syrian crisis in March 2011, 83,598 people lost their lives in attacks by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, among them were 8,393 children and 7,686 women. SOHR underlined that 2,441 people were killed under torture, and that the highest number of civilian casualties occured in the suburbs of Damascus, Homs, Aleppo and Idlib.
