Beirut - Arab Today

Andrea Zaki, head of the Evangelical Community in Egypt and President of the Fellowship of Middle East Evangelical Churches (FMEEC), stressed on Thursday that the future of Arab Christians in the Middle East is closely linked to the future of moderate Muslims in the region.

Zaki, speaking at the third international conference of FMEEC here, said Christians, following the Arab Spring, found themselves in a difficult situation facing more and more difficulties.

Christians, in general and Evangelicals, in particular, have to play roles that bring about peace and stability, especially in what is related to two main topics; migration and identity, he said.

The conference is being held at Haigazian University in Beirut under the theme of Evangelicals...the Christian Presence in Mashreq".

Zaki congratulated the Lebanese on Independence Day anniversary and the election of a new president of the country.

FMEEC Secretary General Rosangela Jarjour, the head of the Swiss Council of Churches and president of Haigazian University in Beirut also spoke at the conference.

Lebanese Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi attended the conference on behalf of President Michel Aoun in addition to a number of Christian clergymen in Lebanon, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
