Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, headed the UAE delegation that participated in the 148th session of the Arab League Council, at the level of Arab foreign ministers, which was held today at the headquarters of the Arab League.
The UAE delegation included Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Abdullah Matar Al Mazrouei, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The session was led by Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Djibouti, as the successor to his counterpart Abdulqader Musahel, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs. It also saw the participation of Arab ministers of foreign affairs and heads of the participating delegations, as well as the attendance of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.
Aboul Gheit stated that the Arab political system represented by Arab League was established on deep-rooted and stable values and laws, with the first being to not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, as well as to respect their sovereignty.
During his speech at the council, Ali Youssouf stressed the importance of making considerable efforts to unify their stances and come together, considering the circumstances facing the region.
He called on Iran to stop its interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries and end its occupation of three Emirati islands. He also called for intensifying Arab and International co-operation to combat extremism and terrorism and dry up their sources of funding while following an inclusive strategy to eliminate terrorist gangs, to preserve the fabric of Arab communities.
Musahel highlighted the necessity of unifying Arab and International efforts to relentlessly combat the disease of terrorism, through an integrated and comprehensive strategy that aims to eliminate the extremist ideology that supports terrorism while drying up its sources of funding, especially criminal activities.
