Two MPs from Michel Aoun’s Change and Reform parliamentary bloc forwarded to Parliament Monday a draft election law by which every sect elects its own MPs based on a proportional representation system. The draft law, presented by MPs Nehmatallah Abi Nasr and Alain Aoun, stipulates that “MPs of every sect get elected by its members based on a system of proportional representation.” It adopts the entirety of Lebanon as one single district and equally distributes Parliament seats between Muslims and Christians. “Allowing every sect to elect its MPs is not something new to Lebanon,” Abi Nasr told reporters.
