Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar said that his ministry started to implement the first stage of a project on building 1,000 mosques across Egypt's governorates.
In statements on Friday, the minister said that a place will be allocated at the new mosques for the memorization of the Holy Quran and removing illiteracy classes.
Libraries or a collection of the publications of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs will be also available at the new mosques, he added.
