The Cairo Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced to death eight defendants over charges of storming Helwan police station, setting it ablaze and killing three officers, three civilians and injuring 19 others.
One of the eight defendants is sentenced in absentia.
The eight convicts, along with others, committed their crimes after the dispersal of Rabaa Adawya and Nahda sits-in that were staged by the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group.
Also, 50 other defendants in the case were sentenced to 25 years in prison while seven others were sentenced to 10 years in jail. Three were sentenced to five years in prison.
They were collectively fined one million pounds in damages to the Interior Ministry.
Also, they were fined, except five of them, 100,000 pounds in civil damages to victim Mostafa Khater.
