The Dubai Police Anti-Crime Department has stepped up its efforts to stamp out incidents of murders and sexual exploitation. We want Dubai to be an oasis of ‘security and stability’, Colonel Ahmed Thani bin Ghalita, Director of Anti-Crime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation of Dubai Police, said.Speaking to the Press, Bin Ghalita warned that anybody who thinks of disturbing the order of Dubai and its standing will not succeed.Citing a recent case which the police cracked, Bin Ghalita said an Arab man was killed by an Asian one night at the International City in Dubai. He stated that the killer was arrested when the latter was driving the victim’s car and was intercepted through a police cordon. He tried to evade the police but was finally caught. The criminal’s clothes were bloodstained. On being questioned, the man confessed to killing the Arab at a shop. He was taken to the reported shop, where the victim’s body was seen lying in a pool of blood.Bin Ghalita stated that the department also managed to solve the mystery of five sexual molestation cases on women in public places in Jumeirah and Jebel Ali last year.He said the police received some complaints reporting that a man was seen committing indecent acts in public areas at Jumeirah beach. In Jebel Ali, he said the police received two complaints that a man had been stalking lone women, and as soon as they would enter an elevator, he would assault them sexually, and would then stop the elevator and run away.“Initially, we had expected one person to be committing such crimes, but when the police arrested the first offender, who was a European of Arab descent, for the Jumeirah beach sexual offences, he claimed that he was not behind the Jebel Ali molestation incidents.Later, another man, also a European, was arrested in connection with the Jebel Ali sexual molestation,” said Bin Ghalita. He pointed out that the anti-crime department had launched a crackdown on offenders, following reports of a number of thefts on public buses, burglary in Al Rafaa area and robberies from safes and wardrobes at Al Muraqqabat. He said the police clamped down on bachelors’ homes which resulted in the arrest of 29 violators of residency law, four people were implicated in theft crimes, 71 were illegal immigrants and seven others were wanted on several criminal cases.Between January 1 and January 31, the department, in a bid to clamp down on thieves in the Al Qusais, area checked up on as many as 1,642 people and 1,615 cars. A total of 24 people were wanted on various crimes and 187 suspects were apprehended. The department, Bin Ghalita said, is currently doing multi security studies including one on sexual molestation to forward the issues to the concerned organisations source : Khaleejtimes
