The Al-Farooq Omar Bin Al-wKhattab Mosque & Center (AFMC) will receive distinguished reciters from different parts of the Middle East during Ramadan. The reciters, from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Lebanon, who will lead Taraweeh prayers every day during the holy month, include:
• 1-4 Ramadan: Sheikh Fares Al-Mustafa, Religious and Cultural Affairs Adviser, AFMC (UAE).
• 5-9 Ramadan: Sheikh Abdul Wali Al-Arkani, imam of Hisham Abdul Rahman Ja’far Al Rees Mosque (Bahrain).
• 10-15 Ramadan: Sheikh Hassan Ali Merheb, imam of Bahaa El Din Mosque (Lebanon).
• 16-20 Ramadan: Sheikh Abdullah Ghilan, Qur’an reciter at the prophet’s mosque (KSA).
• 21-29 Ramadan: Sheikh Fares Al-Mustafa, Religious and Cultural Affairs Adviser, AFMC (UAE).
As part of its annual Ramadan program, AFMC will also serve 1,200 meals daily for people to break their fast in a specialized air-conditioned tent located at AFMC. In 2016, the mosque welcomed over 100,000 worshippers during the holy month. This year, it is expecting an even larger number.
Abdul Salam Al-Marzooqi, general manager, AFMC, said: “We are committed to run Ramadan campaigns every year. These initiatives reflect the spirit of giving in the holy month, especially with this year being the Year of Giving in the UAE.”
There will be daily religious lectures by Al-Mustafa after Asr prayers which will be broadcasted live on YouTube. The Ramadan campaign also includes Instagram episodes of “Ramadan Harvest” series by Al-Mustafa which will be posted daily.
In addition, there will be live streaming for some prayers so that they can reach a wider audience.
The AFMC also welcomes non-Muslims in Ramadan where visitors get the chance to experience the essence of the holy month by taking part in the iftar meal alongside Muslims. They also learn about the core values of Islam as well as the culture and traditions of the UAE.
Al-Mustafa said: “Ramadan is one of the most important months in the Islamic calendar. It is a blessed month that brings the community together.”
He added: “Islam is a religion of peace which encourages co-existence. It is important that we show non-Muslims the true teachings of our religion.
