Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa on Thursday said 78,138 Egyptian pilgrims would be allowed to perform Hajj this year after finalizing expansion projects at the Holy Mosque in Mecca.
Egypt's share in Hajj season, along with that of all other countries, was decreased by 20% during the expansion projects, but it is now back to normal, said the minister.
Gomaa's remarks were made following a meeting of the Higher Ministerial Committee for Hajj, chaired by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, to discuss preparations for the 1438H pilgrimage season.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of Awqaf, social solidarity, health, civil aviation, tourism and transport, in addition to heads of Hajj missions and other bodies concerned.
