Emirates Islamic, one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in the UAE, today announced that the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund is marking the holy month of Ramadan with several charitable, humanitarian and community initiatives, in keeping with the spirit of faith and generosity during the blessed period, and the Year of Giving, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.
The Emirates Islamic Charity Fund has planned activities across the UAE that exemplify Islam’s true spirit of giving and contributing to the community.
This year, the Charity Fund has partnered with several charitable and humanitarian organisations including Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Beit Al Khair Society, Dar Al Ber Society, Ras Al Khaimah Charity Organisation, the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department in Dubai and Sharjah Charity International to distribute meer ramadan (essential foodstuff and commodities regularly needed during the holy month of Ramadan) to needy families. The Charity Fund will also contribute to an iftaar organised by the Ministry of Interior’s Emirates Women Police Association at the Abu Dhabi police headquarters for people with physical disabilities on Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on the 19th day of Ramadan every year.
In collaboration with the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Emirates Islamic Charity Fund is providing Iftar to up to 350 people across Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah on a daily basis throughout the holy month. The meals are prepared by a group of Emirati families in certified kitchens, thus providing these families with a source of livelihood and income during Ramadan.
In addition, the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund along with Dubai Awqaf is providing 150 labourers with Iftar daily as well as an opportunity to learn more about Islam through lectures and prayer sessions.
The Charity Fund has also arranged for the Emirates Islamic ‘Food for All’ truck, in association with Beit Al Khair, to distribute 1,000 iftaar meals across the UAE every Friday to the less fortunate, with plans to introduce a second truck soon.
Commenting on the initiatives, Awatif Al Harmoodi, General Manager, Operational Governance, Emirates Islamic and the person in charge of the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund said: "As a homegrown bank of the UAE, we are proud to partner with notable public institutions in the country to help improve the lives of the needy, in line with the Islamic values of brotherhood, kindness and generosity. In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund is implementing a series of initiatives to give back to the community. We are participating in several humanitarian and social causes that exemplify the pillars of the Year of Giving: through volunteering, being a responsible corporate citizen, and inculcating a spirit of loyalty and commitment into the next generation."
With Ramadan being the season for forgiveness, the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund has contributed to debt repayment and diyaa to secure the release of prisoners, enabling them to spend Ramadan with loved ones. The Charity Fund has also collaborated with Al Faraj Fund to provide debt repayment and diyaa.
Emirates Islamic will also continue to be one of the gold sponsors of the honourable Dubai International Holy Quran Award held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
