ERC launches project to distribute school bags in Ataq, Yemen

The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, team in the Shabwa Governorate of Yemen, today launched a project to distribute school bags to students in the area for the start of the new school year, alongside a project to provide school furniture.

The ERC team visited Al Baihany Elementary School in Ataq to inaugurate the school bag project which will benefit 5,000 students. It will also provide furniture to local elementary, basic and secondary schools, including 1,000 double chairs, according to a plan by the Education Office in Shabwa Governorate.

Mohammed Saif Al Muhairi, Head of the ERC Team in Shabwa, said that the project is part of a working plan that includes various local schools, while adding that it is not their only planned project to support the education system in the governorate. He also highlighted the previous issues faced by the local education system, which were caused by the coup started by the Houthi militias.

Al Muhairi also highlighted the ERC’s efforts to support the local education sector, including the launching of several key projects, performing maintenance and restoration work in local schools and education facilities, and providing their full support to the residents of Shabwa, so that their children can continue their education and build a new and peaceful Yemen.

Mohammed Ali Lamlas, Director-General of the Education Office in Shabwa Governorate, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the UAE and its relief and humanitarian arm, the ERC, for their key role in supporting the education system in Shabwa, ensuring a better future for its coming generations.

He described the project to provide school bags, which comes within the framework of the noble role of the UAE and the ERC and its team in the governorate, as exceptional, while praising the ERC’s charitable activities that aim to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.
