The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, is continuing its efforts to support the medical sector in Yemen, by providing Al Khawkhah Hospital, located in Al Khawkhah District in the country’s West Coast, with a shipment of medications and medical equipment, along with a medical team who are trained to deal with critical cases.
The value of the UAE’s aid to the Yemeni health sector has reached AED611.3 million over two and a half years, from April 2015 to November 2017.
The ERC’s contributions have led to normalising living conditions in Al Khawkhah, which has been totally liberated from Iran-backed Houthis militias, and has accomplished significant achievements in improving local health services.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Juma Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Head of the ERC Team in Aden, stressed that the UAE’s assistance to the people of Yemen is part of a series of achievements by the ERC in the local health services sector, to maintain, restore and prepare 23 health facilities, including hospitals, medical units, birth centres and prosthetics centres, well as an association for people of determination, a cancer centre for children and a medical warehouse.
The ERC’s work also includes providing health facilities in Aden, Lahij, Abien, Taiz and the country’s West Coast with medicine and medical equipment, he added.
Al Mazrouei stated that the ERC is intensifying its humanitarian, relief and development support for Yemen, to provide its people with a decent life and help them overcome the tough conditions they are facing, caused by the siege by the Houthis militias.
He noted that the ERC is conducting numerous projects in various Yemeni governorates, including the restoration of residential homes, electricity plants, water networks and hospitals while pointing out that the UAE’s assistance has reached the majority of liberated cities and villages in the country’s West Coast.
The ERC is co-operating and co-ordinating with international organisations in implementing humanitarian projects in Yemen, to support the launch of health, water and sanitation programmes, as well as the restoration of many hospitals, Al Mazrouei said in conclusion.
