Expo 2020 Dubai and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, MBRF, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to integrate the contents, programmes and initiatives of Expo 2020 into the UAE’s ambition of establishing itself as a regional hub for knowledge, education and research.
The MoU was signed on the first day of the MBRF-organised Knowledge Summit 2017 in Dubai, by Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, and Najeeb Al Ali, Executive Director of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau.
Under the MoU, the parties will focus collaboration on initiatives related to knowledge, including the Knowledge Summit, as well as the development of knowledge and cultural elements leading up to and during the exposition. Efforts to engage the community, particularly those related to youth and educational institutions, will also be bolstered through the agreement.
Commenting on the signing, Al Ali said, "Knowledge is a main pillar of Expo 2020 Dubai and it is evident in our theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. We are privileged to have MBRF as our reference on knowledge as we create the content of Expo 2020. Our collaboration will enrich the programmes and initiatives that millions of visitors from around the world will experience in 2020.
"MBRF and Expo 2020 share common goals of diffusing knowledge and innovation, enhancing understanding and awareness of our subthemes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – and fostering a strong social and cultural legacy in the UAE and beyond. Our work together will help create a meaningful legacy."
Jamal bin Huwaireb said, "Knowledge is a central plank of the UAE national strategy and it is crucial for all UAE organisations to work together to build positive capacity towards a knowledge society."
"We will offer Expo enabling tools in the field of knowledge and knowledge management. Expo 2020, a destination that brings together countries and organisations, will help us achieve our goals in enhancing the UAE’s position on the world map," he continued.
Opening on 20th October 2020, Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to record 25 million visits, with 70 percent from outside the UAE – the largest proportion of international visitors in the 166-year history of World Expos. More than 200 participants, including nations, multilateral organisations, corporations and educational institutions, are expected to take part in the event.
