The Technical Affairs, Energy and Mineral Resources Committee of the Federal National Council, FNC, held its first operational meeting for the third ordinary session of the 16th legislative chapter at the headquarters of the FNC General Secretariat in Dubai today.
During the meeting, the committee members elected Mohammed Ali Al Kamali as its chairman and Afraa Al Basti as rapporteur according to Article 52 of the FNC statute.
The committee discussed the policies of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, FEWA, as part of the authority's strategic pillars to develop services it provides to citizens and residents.
Al Kammali explained that the committee reviewed the outcome of its previous meeting with the representatives of local authorities that provide utilities services in the UAE, in cooperation with FEWA, including the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Sharjah Municipality, Umm Al Qaiwain Municipality, Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, Abu Dhabi Municipality, and representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
He emphasised that the committee had received all the statistics and information it had requested from these authorities, which had then been analysed. The committee further identified the main functions of the organisations, allowing it to perform an analysis of the services provided via FEWA.
The committee will participate in field visits to several authorities and institutions, as part of its work plan to discuss and pass on the best recommendation and draft its report, Al Kammali added.
The committee reviewed a comparative study related to the cost of electricity and water services provided by local authorities in the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to explore the best practices in this regard, he concluded.
