GCC countries have urged the UN Security Council to honour its responsibility towards maintaining international peace and security to break the siege of Homs city and prevent the Syrian regime and its allies from committing atrocities against civilians in Homs and its outskirts. The GCC countries also urged the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, to carry out his responsibilities in this regard in compliance with the United Nations' Charter. The GCC-member countries announced they have been following with utmost concern the latest developments in Syria and the brutal siege imposed by the Syrian regime backed by Hezbollah militias and Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The GCC General-Secretariat stated that the obstinacy of the Syrian regime and its committing of sectarian ethnic cleansing on the outskirts of Homs along with its reported use of chemical warfare against the Syrian people are tantamount to war crimes, and the Syrian regime is on the verge of committing an awful atrocity against the inhabitants of Homs.
