An illegal emigration attempt was thwarted in Tunisia's Monastir Governorate, Tunisian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement Wednesday. "A makeshift boat with nine Tunisian migrants on board was intercepted by Coastguards under the Navy, 30 miles from the Northeast of Monastir," said the statement.
The potential immigrants were attempting to cross to the Italian island of Pantelleria, According to Tunisian news agency (TAP) After their arrest, they were taken to the port of Monastir and handed to the National Guard units.
