Amman - Osama Al Rantisi

The coalition of Jordanian nationalist and leftist parties, which comprises six parties, have refused the one-person, one-vote electoral system which indicates the lack of political will to reform, creating a general crisis in the country once more. Political forces, trade unions and civil society organisations called for the participation of a sit-in organised by the coalition in front of the House of Representatives in protest against the one-vote electoral system, demanding a democratic electoral law adopting proportional representation on Sunday evening. The coalition includes the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, progressive Arab Baath Party, National Movement for Direct Democracy, People's Democratic Party (HASHD), Jordanian Communist and Democratic Popular Unity. The Jordanian Communist party complained that the country is living  "in a state of backwardness" and retreating from the approach of political reforms. It stated that the insistence on rejecting the public's demands for a law adopting proportional representation at the country level and provincial constituency level each by 50 percent proves that there is still an intent to impede the course of the promised political, economic and constitutional reform. Moreover the party warned against the phenomenon of community violence which is dominating the country which has come about as a result of the political, economic and constitutional approach which has led the country to this situation in light of worsening living conditions and  increased rates of unemployment and poverty.
