A wanted criminal was killed while a convicted murderer was wounded in a car chase Monday after they failed to stop at a police checkpoint in the Beirut northern suburb of Burj Hammoud. The wounded man, who was identified as Ali Zeaiter, was transferred under heavy security to the Al-Mashreq Hospital in Sin al-Fil for treatment. Police later learned that Zeaiter had already been convicted of murder in absentia and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Saeed Zeaiter, who was killed in the car chase, had several arrest warrants issued against him. Police had shot at the two men’s vehicle – a Chevrolet – during the car chase.
