Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Gebran Bassil, arrived in Guadeloupe where he held talks with Guadalupe Mayor, Jacques Bangu, in the presence of the Lebanese Ambassador to France, Rami Adwan, where the foundations of cooperation with the local authorities in France to organize the parliamentary elections were laid.
After the meeting, the mayor of Guadalupe welcomed Bassil, saying "I am aware of the importance of your protocol visit. There is a special relationship between us and the Lebanese community living in Guadalupe; a community that has not broken its bond with its mother country."
"I would like to underline the key role played by the Lebanese expats in our economy, and various others sectors," he said, stressing willingness to offer "all the assistance and cooperation needed to organize the voting process in the Lebanese parliamentary elections for the Diaspora in Guadalupe."
Bassil, in turn, thanked the mayor of Guadalupe, stressing that "the cooperation that has been offered to us will help the Lebanese abroad to participate in the parliamentary elections in Lebanon," Bassil said, thanking Guadalupe "for the assistance provided to conduct these elections in the best of circumstances, whether logistical or political, which gives us the opportunity to show the Lebanese attachment to their land and to help us highlight the importance and value of democracy to the Lebanese and Guadalupe peoples."
"This would allow the Lebanese to participate in their country's political life, even if they lived hundreds and thousands of kilometers afar, which helps them draw a better future for their State," the minister stressed.
"We have begun the logistical preparations aimed at holding the parliamentary elections on time. This is a political message for all the Lebanese abroad to believe that they will have the opportunity to vote from abroad for the first time in the history of Lebanon," he said
