Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s opening day finished with an electrifying concert from French singer and rock guitarist Matthieu Chedid, known as –M–, under the museum’s iconic dome.

Thousands of people visited on Saturday 11th November when Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collections and architecture were unveiled to the public for the first time.

To mark the historic occasion, celebrations are taking place at Louvre Abu Dhabi until Tuesday 14th November. Included in admissions tickets are a spectacular light show by Groupe F as part of the Emirati-French Cultural Programme; dance performances by Lucinda Childs and Lemi Ponifasio; traditional Al Ayaala, Chinese and Dogon parades; a video installation by Dubai-based artist Hind Mezaina; and other multicultural music, dance and art performances.

-M- is the first of four headline acts performing throughout the week. The legendary singer and rock guitarist has been awarded a remarkable eight French Grammys over the course of his career.

For the opening week, tours and workshops are included in admission tickets. Adults are invited to discover masterpieces from the collection and the museum’s architecture, while families can explore geometric patterns in the Children’s Museum, make their own masks inspired by the collection and participate in special gallery tours.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is a museum city which combines traditional Arabic inspiration with contemporary design and engineering. Waterfront promenades overlook the sea underneath the iconic dome, comprised of 7,850 unique metal stars set in a complex geometric pattern. When sunlight filters through, it creates a cinematic ‘rain of light’, reminiscent of the overlapping palm trees in the UAE’s oases.
