A 30-year-old man from southern Gaza died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an explosion in a smuggling tunnel, medics said.Amer Abu Khamash, from Khan Younis, was seriously injured when a gas canister exploded in a tunnel he worked in under the Gaza-Egypt border on March 26. Three tunnel workers were wounded in the blast.Medics told Ma'an that Abu Khamash died from his injuries in hospital on Tuesday. In January, the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights urged the Gaza government to implement better safety measures and assess the benefits of the tunnel network as a whole, saying 232 people had been killed in collapsing tunnels."Most of the people who work in tunnels are from very low-income backgrounds and have been forced to undertake this kind of work to provide for their families under the difficult socio-economic conditions caused by the Israeli siege on Gaza," the group said.
