Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi on Wednesday made changes to a number of Senior position in Egyptian security forces in light of the Sinai attack, with replacing the Intelligence Chief Morad Mowafi amongst the biggest changes. Presidential Spokesman Yasser Ali said today that Mowafi was moved into early retirement . General Mohamed Shehata replaced Mowafi and is now Egypt’s Acting Intelligence Chief during “interim period,” according to Ali. Morsy also asked Chairman of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces Field Marshall Mohammed Hussein Tantawy to replace Major General Hamdy Badeen, who was Commander of Egypt’s Military Police. Field Marshall Tantawy accepted the President’s request and fired Badeen. No replacement was announced by the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) yet. The Ministry of Interior did not escape from some changes; Head of the Republican Guard Major General Hamed Zaky and Head of Egypt’s Central Security Forces Mostafa Kamel were both relieved from service, according to State run Nile TV. The channel did not report on the identity of the replacements. Governor of North Sinai Abdel Wahab Mabrouk was dismissed as well.
