The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) will hold a press conference next week at its headquarters at Al-Seef district to outline results of its unannounced visits to rehabilitation and detention centres.
“Conducting such visits and convening a press conference to announce results represent a transparent step which would contribute to developing institutional work and promoting the performance rehabilitation and detention centres”, said NIHR President Said bin Mohammed Al-Fihani.
A delegation representing NIHR board of commissioners conducted unannounced visits to a number of rehabilitation institutions and detention centres to monitor human rights.
Decree 20 which amended provisions of law 26 of 2014 expanded NIHR prerogatives, mandating the national watchdog to conduct announced and unannounced visits to monitor the plight of human rights at rehabilitation institutions, detention centres, labour communities, health and educational facilities or any other public place suspected of involving violations
