Parliament starts discussing maritime border agreement with Saudi Arabia
Cairo - Arab Today

The House of Representative under Ali Abdel Aal started to discuss the report of the defense and national security committee regarding the maritime border agreement with Saudi Arabia.

The constitutional and legislative affairs committee held four meetings to review the agreement, with the attendance of more than 250 members of the various committees at the council, said Abdel Aal.

Several experts were also invited to attend the meetings, including members of the national committee, he added.

The delimitation of maritime boundaries is controlled also by the United Nations Agreement for year 1982, he noted.

Also, a number of experts whose opinions were not with the government's ones were also invited to attend the meetings, he further said.

"We do not have anything to hide in this agreement," he affirmed.

He also said that the Armed Forces also attended such meetings, affirming that the Armed Forces “cannot waste a single grain of national soil.”

Head of the Defense and National Security Committee Kamal Amer said that the delimitation of maritime boundaries is necessary for any state, adding that determining the maritime borders with Saudi Arabia promotes the opportunity to benefit from the natural resources in the borders of each country.

"Although the agreement affirmed that Tiran and Sanafir islands belong to Saudi Arabia, we are confident that they will always serve the Egyptian and Arab national security," he said.
