Manama - Arab Today

Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution, Advocate General Chancellor Ahmed Al Hammadi, has announced that investigations into the case in which a suspect ran over a public security member in Duraz have been completed.

The suspect, who was remanded in custody pending his trial, was charged with attempted murder for terrorist purposes and with assaulting an on-duty public employee, also for terrorist purposes, the advocate-general said, adding that the defendant will stand trial at the High Criminal Court on December 25.

Documents show that the case dates back to May 23, 2017, when a public security patrol was stationed on the Budaiya Avenue, near Duraz,

When the suspect spotted a policeman getting off the security vehicle to perform prayers, he speeded up the bus he was driving and hit him from behind for the purpose of killing him, which resulted in the injuries mentioned in medical reports.

The suspect also stabbed another policeman with a knife while he was trying to escape, and was then arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution.

The Public Prosecution levelled the charges against the suspect based on testimonies from the witnesses and his confessions, as well as on technical and forensic reports, in addition to those of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science.
