Preserve biodiversity, says Sultan
Sharjah - Arab Today

In an interview with Dhaid-based Al Wousta TV, run by the Sharjah Media Corporation, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has talked about future projects in the emirate’s Central Region and the attention given to professions such as farmers, shepherds and fishermen.

In an interview with Dr. Rashid Ahmed Al Mazrouei, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan spoke about the culture of the desert and its characteristics, customs, lifestyle as well as the environmental and tribal system of the region.

He discussed the difference between the mountains of the Central Region and the limestone mountains on the East Coast, as well as the areas in the Central Region that are rich in underground water resources and the reasons for this abundance of water. He also discussed the names of areas in Sharjah in general, and particularly the Central Region.

The Ruler's vision of Sheikh Sultan for the Central Region reflects efforts to protect the customs and traditions of its people and a desire to cope with development and civilisation without losing them.

He praised the efforts of Al Wousta TV to provide coverage of the region.

He went on to explain that he is giving considerable attention to the Region, investing in its people through establishing museums, schools and universities as well as providing the necessary infrastructure.

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan concluded by discussing the efforts being made to protect the trees of the desert, noting that a number of nature reserves have been established. It was of key importance, he noted, to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity and wildlife and flora.
