Assistant commends Qatari efforts in Darfur's peace and development

The Assistant of the President of the Republic, has commended the role played by the State of Qatar in support of the peace and development in the various areas of the country, and in Darfur in particular

Musa Mohamed Ahmed, the President Assistant, pointed out during the ceremony marking the signing of agreement of the establishment of ten model villages by Qatar in Darfur, said these villages would contribute in a direct manner in the peace building and cementing of stability and security in the region after conflict and violence have receded there.

He said the situation there has revived the yearning for sustainable development and rehabilitation projects in Darfur.

He said the Qatari projects would help in the return of the Darfur internally displace persons and the refugees to their home area and would greatly contribute in cementing stability there.

He told the ceremony which was held at Corinthia Hotel in Khartoum that the signing of the agreement for the construction of those model villages confirm the fact that Qatar is a brotherly partner and an outstanding contributor in the peace and building process in Darfur region.

Magdi Khalfalla, the chairman of the Darfur Peace follow up Bureau and supervisor of the Darfur Commissions, said the importance of the event comes from the fact that it coincides with the peace building process and at a time the real challenge ahead is to move from the stage of rehabilitation to that of building and development in Darfur.

He said these projects do coincide and go in hand with the strategic plan I the areas of development and in line with the Darfur development plans, while at the same time they directly contribute in the remedy of the legacy of war and violence in Darfur and further more help with the voluntary return of refugees and displaced persons to their home areas in Darfur.

Khallafalla has stressed the keenness of the government of the Sudan to cooperate with Qatar in the joint efforts for development which shows the faithfulness of the Qatari side and its commitment in this bilateral cooperation which has become a model for successful development cooperation.

Khallafalla has appreciate the stands of Qatar beside the Sudan during times of hardship in the case of Darfur and its efforts until the Sudan was able to put in place a strong foundation for peace, through the full implementation of the Doha peace agreement in Darfur which was widely accepted and approved by the people in Darfur and was fully backed by the international community
