Jordan's Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS) has praised the "religious and national" role played by Al Azhar in the service of the Arab and Muslim nations.
Prince al Hassan bin Talal, the chairman of RIIFS board of trustees, stressed the importance of creating peace and building a future through Arab cooperation and development.
Delivering a lecture at Al Azhar University Wednesday, Prince al Hassan said terrorism is a major challenge, given its negative impacts on nations and peoples. Islam is against all forms of terrorism, he stressed.
Islam is all about peace, the prince said, noting that it advocates good treatment of the Other in a way that helps promote peace.
Prince al Hassan was pleased with efforts exerted by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Dr Ahmed el Tayyeb to unify Muslims and promote the values of Islam at a time extremist groups are acting to defame Islam.
The prince is set to meet with Dr Tayyeb later today.
