Beirut - Arab Today

Lebanese Kataeb Party Chief, MP Sami Gemayel, called Thursday from Bkirki for "neutrality that is real and full, and not a lie."

On emerging from his meeting with Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Gemayel said that the visit was to brief the Patriarch on the outcome of his tour among a number of countries, seeking his opinion and advice.

Gemayel added that he informed the Patriarch of "the gravity of the situation" from his Party's perspective, saying, "Lebanon is more and more under the full commandment of guardianship, and this is a cover for an abnormal composition at the level of power."

He expressed concern that "not only is it possible to give-up the State's sovereignty, but also to adopt all that is being carried out by some parties in Lebanon and abroad," describing the situation as "dangerous and Lebanon may pay dearly in the future."

Gemayel stressed that "the authority's main concern is not the sovereignty and neutrality of the State, but the conducting of deals," expressing his fear of this "sudden urgency to finalize in the coming weeks the oil and gas deals and everything that was stuck till this day."

"The wealth of Lebanon, which is the property of future generations, is being robbed by a management that proved to be untrustworthy of Lebanese funds and any proper administration of the country," he added.

"The insistence on the approval of oil decrees and the urgency under the current circumstances is scary because it is irreversible," warned Gemayel.

He hoped that "the Lebanese will be well-aware of what is happening and make the choices that are in line with their convictions in the upcoming parliamentary elections, redirecting the compass in the right direction."

Gemayel concluded by saying, "The more Lebanon veers from its neutrality, the more it plunges into huge conflicts
