Saudi Sheikh Khalaf al-Shammari pardoned his son's killer after receiving a letter from King Abdullah urging him to show compassion, a royal prince said. "We came today to deliver the letter of King Abdullah ... in the hope that you let the spirit of forgiveness and generosity prevail and you forgive the killer of your son," Prince Saud bin Abdul-Mohsen, emir of Hail, told Shammari Sunday. Sultan al-Ghazi who had been scheduled for execution by beheading was set free upon receiving the pardon, Arab News reported.
