The security of the Gulf states is a shared responsibility where a threat against one will be considered a threat against all, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, said on Wednesday.
"We will protect our common security in the Gulf region in actions not in words. We will build an insusceptible barrier to fend off any threat to the security of any Gulf state," said Sheikh Saif in a statement following the conclusion of Arabian Gulf Security 1, a month-long joint security exercise arranged by the six members of the GCC, which includes the UAE.
"The Gulf is unified behind the decisions of the leaders of our countries and the will of their people, who have close family and social ties. Our security is indivisible and so is our destiny."
The exercise was part of the GCC security agreement and joint Arab action, Sheikh Saif added.
Earlier, he and his GCC counterparts met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain to discuss bolstering security and police cooperation between the states, reported state news agency Wam.
He also met with Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain.
Sheikh Saif arrived in Bahrain on Wednesday where he was received by Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Bahraini Interior Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary-General of the GCC, Abdul Redha Abdullah Al Khouri, UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, and other officers and officials.
