A delegation from the Smithsonian Institution along with representatives from the UAE Embassy in Washington have visited a number of archaeological and historic sites in the Al Ain Region. The visit, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, included Al Ain Oasis, Al Jahili Fort, Qasr Al Muwaiji and Al Qattara Arts Centre.
The delegation was briefed on the historic, cultural, touristic and social significance of the Al Ain Region, and the importance of this to Al Ain, especially in conserving its cultural heritage and national identity.
The visit was organised to strengthen bilateral relations between the Smithsonian Institution and the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, and to create new opportunities to benefit from the Institution’s educational and cultural programmes.
Al Ain continues to conserve its authentic Emirati spirit, its traditions and cultural heritage and provides its visitors with an entrancing cultural experience featuring its heritage sites, ancient fortresses, museums, heritage markets and ancient oases, which still cradle fruit-bearing palm trees.
The Smithsonian Institution is an educational and research institution - consisting of a group of museums - funded and administered by the US government, in addition to funds it receives from donations and the profits of its stores and magazine.
