The UAE National Jujitsu Team continues its quest to collect medals, as the team has now scooped 7 medals in the 5th Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts being hosted in Ashgabad, including 2 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes.
The UAE squad comprises 12 players in 6 different weight groups, and Talib Al Karbi took the gold medal in the under 69 kg bout. In an all Emirati final, Faisal Al Ketbi followed suit and won the gold medal for under 94 kg, beating Zayed Al Kaabi, who clinched silver. Khalfan Balhoul took the bronze medal in the under 85 kg, while Yahya Al Hammadi and Saud Al Hammadi won bronze medals in the over 94 kg and under 77 kg respectively. In addition, Bashayer Matroushi upset the home favourite to deliver the first women's medal for the UAE in the games.
"All the players came to Ashgabat with high morale and great ambition to culminate the efforts by collecting medals," said Al Ketbi, the gold medalist. "I extend my sincere congratulations to my team-mates and wish success to everyone in the remaining competitions of the games. Our camp in Brazil and the hard work we put in there have paid dividends today in the Asian Indoor Games as we have scooped 7 medals. We always eye the number one place," added Al Ketbi.
