Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The Emirates Red Crescent is continuing its developmental and rehabilitation programmes in the liberated areas of Yemen as part of the UAE efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Anti-cholera campaigns lie at the heart of the UAE premier humanitarian aid provider in Yemen, with other efforts going on full swing to rehabilitate the health, education, infrastructure sectors in the war-torn country.

UN officials and a number of Yemen ministers have spoken high of the diligent efforts made by the ERC to rehabilitate the destroyed schools, hospitals and infrastructure and restore hope for the Yemeni people.

Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, has commended the considerable contributions of the UAE to assuage the untold suffering of the Yemeni people specially in areas of combatting the outbreak of cholera across the liberated Yemeni governorates. The international official is in constant coordination with the ERC officials to ensure the UAE and international aid reach largest segments of Yemeni society.

In statements to Emirates News Agency, Yemen's Minister of Health and Population Dr. Nasser Ba'aom, lauded the "eminent role played by the ERC' in fighting the cholera outbreak in his country, affirming that the UAE humanitarian organisation's efforts have managed to limit the spread of the fatal disease across several Yemeni governorates.

It's noteworthy that the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced in July 2017 the UAE’s donation of U$10 million to the World Health Organisation to support its efforts in combating cholera in Yemen.
