UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that the Arab League is a significant partner of the UN in the fields of peacekeeping, world security, good governance, human rights and fight against terrorism.
This came in a letter sent by the UN chief in reply to a message sent to him by Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit when the former took over early January 2017, the League's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a press release.
Guterres said he looked forward to working with Abul-Gheit during the coming period as part of existing cooperation between both organizations in several significant domains, he added.
He also reiterated the UN's commitment to cooperating with the inter-Arab bloc within the framework of principles and shared responsibilities, hoping that there could be more cooperation between both sides.
He emphasized that there should be partnerships between the UN and other effective international organizations with a view to finding solutions to global problems and challenges, the spokesman added.
