The Emirates News Agency, WAM, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with European News Exchange, ENEX, an association of the world’s leading commercial TV broadcasters, to strengthen joint co-operation in news exchange and transmission and distribution of media content through the latter's international circulation platforms and outlets in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
Inked on the sidelines of the ENEX General Assembly meeting in Dubai between Abdullah Abdul Karim, Director of the Media Coverage Department, WAM, and Adrian Wells, Managing Director, ENEX, the MoU comes within the context of the National Media Council's quest to promote the UAE’s standing globally.
It also seeks to deliver the UAE's message of moderation, centrism, and tolerance to the international community as a role model for co-existence between different nationalities, ethnics and religions. Media constitutes a key pillar of the state's soft power and contributes in highlighting the nation's achievements in all walks of life through the delivery of news, information and reports.
The two news organisations agreed to boost joint co-operation to serve mutual interests whereas the Luxembourg-based ENEX will transmit media content including official news, reports, photos and videos produced by WAM - the UAE's official and leading news source - through its multiple media platforms.
Under the MoU, WAM will promote the media presence and increase footprint of ENEX in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf in general.
The MoU followed the launch of WAM's news service in six languages in addition to its services in both Arabic and English. The new services in French, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Urdu target people of more than 100 countries across the world.
Founded in 1933, ENEX has a membership pool of 50 well-known international TV channels.
