The winners of the both the inaugural Abu Dhabi Art Pavilion Prize and the annual Wings Project competition have been presented with their prizes at Manarat Al Saadiyat in special ceremony.

The ceremony took place at the Pavilion in Manarat Al Saadiyat ahead of this year’s Abu Dhabi Art event which is organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The winners were awarded their respective prizes by Dyala Nusseibeh, Director of Abu Dhabi Art.

Salwa Al Khudairi and Nada Al Mulla, students of Architecture at the American University of Sharjah were awarded AED10,000, with their Al Majlis pavilion set to be unveiled during the fair, which runs from 8th to the 11th November at Manarat Al Saadiyat.

The pavilion will provide a space for galleries, collectors and artists to come together in an informal setting. Runner-up Eman Ali Mohammed’s concept, Arish, was awarded a prize of AED 5,000, with her design set to be displayed in exhibition format at the fair.

This is the first year of the Prize and Abu Dhabi Art has partnered with the British Council for this initiative as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration.

The winners of this year’s Wings Project competition are Sheikha Aysha Saqer Al-Qasemi, Lateefa Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, Nour Obaid Al-Hefeiti, and Shaima Abdulrahman Al-Marzouqi. Their winning designs drew inspiration from Emirati culture whilst childhood memories and playful games were also a dominant theme.

The four artists received a prize of AED5,000 each and a VIP invitation to attend Abu Dhabi Art. The winning logo designs have now been used on merchandise which can be purchased at The Shop at Manarat Al Saadiyat, meaning the winning designs will be exposed to more than 20,000 international visitors during the annual art fair event.

The Wings Project is a yearly competition that runs alongside the fair, created with the aim to support emerging Emirati creative talent. Artists and designers aged 18 and above were invited to recreate the ‘Wing’ shape that forms part of the Abu Dhabi Art logo.

The Wings Project first launched at Abu Dhabi Art in 2010 and has had 34 winners to date.
