The foreign Ministry today held a workshop in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to explaining the funding mechanism and governance of international donor countries for Darfur as part of preparation of the Darfur Donor Conference, scheduled to be held in Doha on April 7 and 8. HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Jabor Al Thani said in an opening remarks that the workshop is being held as part of preparations for Darfur Donor Conference for development and reconstruction in Sudan’s western region, explaining that the meeting aims to hold consultations with stakeholders and donors regarding proposals related to funding mechanism and governance reached by Darfur development strategy. He urged the donors to contribute generously during the conference. He expressed the hope that today’s discussions would be fruitful to explain the funding mechanism proposed in the strategy that was based on international criteria and which worked to take into consideration the interest of the different donors including states, international governmental and non-governmental organizations and the private sector on how to fulfill their pledges after the conference. HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Jabor Al Thani expressed the hope that the workshop would come out with visions supportive to this mechanism which secures coordination and information sharing so that financial allocations would be set in accordance with this strategy. Without the support of the international community and the donors, Darfur wouldn’t have been able to benefit for the humanitarian assistance over the past years, Sheikh Ahmed said noting that time has become opportune for pressing ahead towards the state of reconstruction and recovery.
