Dr. Pierre Dukan the famous nutritionist told Arabstoday that his diet is the best diet to lose weight in the world, because it depends on protein which can keep you full throughout the day. Despite the diet being criticised, the nutritionist says that there are more advantages than disadvantages. Dukan Diet reached a phenomenon climax in the last ten years and was popular amongst stars such as the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. Dukan’s book was a best seller for dieting even though it was rumoured to show side effects. Dukan explained to Arabstoday his dieting principles for obtaining a slim body in a short amount of time. Dukan said that his diet consists of four phases and it should be strictly followed in order to give the person the ideal weight. Lots of proteins should be consumed and very little carbohydrates. Walking for 20 minutes every day is essential. Vegetables are only allowed in the second phase of the diet, with a few fruits and grains. The Dukan diet is distinct by not depending on the food quantity or the number of calories, but it allows the person to eat at anytime he wants although he must only eat proteins at least in the first phase of the diet. This can guarantee a loss of one kg per day and the appetite will be reduced on the third day. Attack phase: Dukan says that the first phase from the diet called Attack is based on protein only, and this stage is considered to kick-start the weight loss process. It is possible to eat any kind of food full of protein and low fats except the sheep meat and it would be better to take a spoon and half of oat bran and a litre and half of water every day, without forgetting to walk for 20 minutes every day. According to Dukan, this phase will take five days and may be less depending on the weight that the dieter wants to lose quickly. For example, if the dieter wants to lose from 5-20 kg, he should follow the first phase for five days, and if he wants to lose more he can make it for seven to 10 days. The Cruise phase: In this phase, vegetables are allowed in order to continue losing more weight until reaching the real weight and of course this is the aim of the diet according to Dukan. He added that one must continue to eat food that is full of proteins and low fats. Also it is essential to eat any kind of non-starchy vegetables, except carrots, onions, potatoes and corn. The amount of oat bran should be increased to two spoons per day. Protein must be eaten in a day and the vegetables must be eaten the following day. The Consolidation Phase: This phase is more sensitive according to Dukan as the body is keen to gain weight again and because of that, this stage is necessary to stop the desire of the body to gain more weight by introducing some of the banned foods from the previous stages and to keep walking for 20 minutes per day. This phase is for five days for every ½ kg Dukan suggests this regime in this phase: -One day during the week for just protein. The other days should include sheep meat and vegetables -One fruit from less sugary fruits. -Two slices of whole-grain bread. -One piece of cheese. -One or two non-starchy vegetables. -One meal or two from any kind of food, weekly. The Stabilisation Phase: This is the ongoing lifestyle phase of the Dukan Diet. In this phase you are instructed to go back to eating whatever you like while continuing to use the rules as follows: -Take three spoons of oat bran daily -Walk for 20 minutes and use stairs as much as possible -Eat protein once a week Advantages and disadvantages of Dukan diet: Dukan confirms that his diet has many advantages for losing a lot of weight. For this reason it is very suitable for those who suffer from overweight because it reduces carbohydrates in the body which reduces hunger. The good thing is that the dieter does not have to calculate the calories he or she uses. As for the disadvantages of the diet, Dunkan admits that the diet does not have all kinds of materials that the healthy body needs. It causes constipation and makes the gases smell.. The dieter will also feel very tired due to the lack of carbohydrates. However the advantages in the diet are a lot bigger than the disadvantages. In conclusion, the Dukan Diet is harsh from reducing different types of food but the quantity can remain the same. The diet can achieve a loss of weight in a short time but it lacks many kinds of food which is important for the body, so one can depend on this diet forever.
