Liberia expects partnership with China in developing its private sector as the country is seeking to recover from the Ebola crisis, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has said.

The remarks came on Monday when Sirleaf was visiting the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex where the Chinese government constructed an Ebola treatment unit worth 41 million U.S. dollars to help fight against the disease.

According to Sirleaf, Liberia's economic recovery is based on the growth of the private sector.

In this regard, the president says her government welcomes China's engagement.

Sirleaf said the Chinese government recently donated items valued at 5 million U.S. dollars to assist with Liberia's post- Ebola recovery.

She said the donations have started Liberia's preparation for post-Ebola recovery and will be highlighted when she joins the presidents of Guinea and Sierra Leone to discuss post-Ebola recovery strategies in a meeting to be held in the United States.

Sirleaf said that throughout its period of struggle, Liberia has always been remembered and assisted by China.

"China has always stood with Liberia as a true friend," Sirleaf said, noting China's assistance and contributions to her country's fight against the Ebola disease should be appreciated by all Liberians.

China was the first to render international assistance to Liberia during the virus outbreak.
