World Health Organization Director General Margaret Chan asserted that the situation in Iraq is worsening.
About seven million people are in dire need of health services in Iraq due to the shortage in drugs and medical supplies, Chan said in a statement.
She made the remarks in a meeting held in Brussels for launching a new humanitarian response plan in Iraq.
Some 14 hospitals and more than 160 health facilities were damaged or destroyed in Iraq as well as the flee of what estimated at 45% of workers in the health sector in fear of their lives, she added.
The international law calls for protecting all workers in the field of health care and hospitals and appreciating the role played by paramedics, she underlined.
