WHO representative Dr. Jean Jabbour
Alexandria - Arab Today

World Health Organization Representative Jean Jabbour hailed achievements made by the Egyptian government in the field of public health and directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to provide treatment for one million Hepatitis C-infected patients.

Jabbour was addressing a conference on public health organized by the High Institute of Public Health of the University of Alexandria.

The gathering was held under the auspices of the ministers of higher education, health and environment.

The university's vice president Mohamed Ismail asserted in an inaugural speech the university's interest in public health through constant work to develop its medical facilities in addition to support for scientific research.

He hailed efforts exerted by the state to combat endemic diseases and eliminate Hepatitis C by 2020 by providing treatment for patients.

In a speech before the conference, head of the environmental affairs authority in Alexandria Hoda Mostafa asserted that the environment ministry seeks to ease pollution rates to preserve the environment for the coming generations.

The ministry backs small-sized enterprises in the field of environment, resources and nature reserves, she said. It also seeks to spread public awareness on health and tighten laws on environmental breaches, she added.
